12:09am 27th January 2012.

New figures reveal that  every one of the 43 police forces in Engalnd and Wales have seen a fall in officer numbers - apart from Surrey.

The Surrey force gained a further 97 officers over the 12 months up to last September.

Nationally, Home Office figures show that by that month, there were more than six-thousand fewer than 2010, and the lowest number since 2002.

The Chief Constable of Gloucestershire police has attacked Government spending cuts, saying his force is on "a metaphorical cliff edge".
