Money for Dorking town centre
2:10pm 9th March 2010.
Thousands of pounds is going to be spent on improving Dorking town centre.
£80,000 will be spent on projects to improve things for shoppers and encourage more of us to visit.
Ideas include a farmers market for South Street and a showcase of local businesses during September.
The money is coming from The South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) and Mole Valley District Council.
Andy Tanner, Chairman of the Dorking DNA Ltd, said "We are delighted with the announcement from SEEDA of this substantial funding award. We are particularly grateful to Mole Valley District Council for their willingness to provide the match funding that released the grant, especially in this challenging financial climate for local government. The funds will be used for projects identified in the health check and supported by the local community. We will be working hard over the next two years with a number of partners to implement projects that will benefit the town and support the local economy."
Councillor Chris Hunt, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning at Mole Valley District Council, said "I would like to congratulate Dorking DNA Limited for the hard work needed to achieve a successful grant application. The Council is pleased to support this important community initiative. This new investment over a range of projects will encourage business and promote access to Dorking."
