Hants stocks up on road salt ahead of the winter

Hampshire bosses are getting ready for the snow early this year after suffering shortages last winter.
Salt supplies have been increased by six thousand tonnes and a new stock barn's been built.
Mini salt bins have also been installed in parishes, schools and health centres for residents to use.
Chief Executive for the Environment - Mel Kendall says it's a delicate balance between over-preparing and being caught short: "I don't know that our council tax payers want us to do more than is necessary.
"Because of course we could have 30,000 tonnes of salt rotting away during a very mild winter and that would be a tremendous expense unnecessarily wouldn't it?"
