Are Surrey's rural villages facing extinction?

Villages in Surrey are in danger of becoming "ghost towns" because house prices are too expensive.

That's according to the National Housing Federation.

The average cost of a property in rural Surrey is well over a quarter of a million pounds, while the average salary is 21 thousand a year.

Warren Finney from the Federation said: "Rural villages are really suffering from a lack of affordable housing.

"Young families simply can't afford to live there and the impact is local pubs, shops, surgeries, schools, post offices, all those types of things are just closing down because there isn't the demand for them to be there."

He's lobbying Surrey councils to "Save our Villages" and wants to see a rise in the number of affordable homes in the county.
